Eternity in Their Hearts: Startling Evidence of Belief in the One True God in Hundreds of Cultures Throughout the World
author Don Richardson
Springboarding from his own missionary experience, graphically portrayed in Peace Child, Don Richardson guides our thinking from the Ecclesiastes reference through other biblical evidences of God preparing people groups to receive the Gospel message, through cultural clues, legends, object lessons, etc.
Richardson then gives, in rapid fire fashion, 26 anecdotal stories presenting evidence of his assertion of “redemptive analogies” embedded in cultures from around the world. His stories highlight the remarkable, sometimes astounding, spiritual awakening of whole people groups.
This book is refreshing, encouraging, and has teaching value for the missionary candidate. Practically, though, the missionary should not spend so much time and effort looking for the “golden key” of that singular miraculous redemption analogy that might break their people group open for the Gospel; rather, the missionary should faithfully be an avid student of the language and culture, while proclaiming and teaching the Gospel. If God has so prepared the people group, God will also cause those breakthrough events in His time. An element of the message of the book is that the concept of redemptive analogy is something that only God can do; the missionary often only stumbles into it by being there and doing what he/she/they should be doing.
