Mission Smart: 15 Critical Questions To Ask Before Launching Overseas
author David L. Frazier
David Frazier is a dear friend and colleague in missions training ministry. His experience in the crucible of a difficult mission field, with extraordinary attrition of workers, convinced him of the necessity of producing this guide for prefield preparation. It is an excellent and thorough guide to the missionary candidate and their mentor/s.
Frazier’s expertise is in TESL/TEFL work. So, the book is leaning in that direction, with a high view on the priority of learning the local language and culture well. If there is a weakness in the presentation, it would be not giving enough emphasis to the role and responsibility of the local church in the whole process. It’s true that the individual bears primary responsibility for their pre-field preparation. However, the local church should not only enter into the process but insist on a leading role for the sake of long-term accountability and shepherding.
If you are preparing to go to the field it’s absolutely worth it to get this book as a reference tool to ask the right questions. Practical ideas for implementation come with every chapter.
