1. Define missions

  2. Define the Gospel

  3. What is your present practice of prayer and financial stewardship in missions?

  4. Have you read the defining documents for the Missions Committee? Those would be, e.g.: Missions Policy, Missions Guidebook/Guidelines, Missions Team/Committee charter documents, and whatever organizational chart there may be showing the Missions Committee under the authority of the Elders, etc.

  5. What are your personal missions experiences and interests? e.g.: Short Term Missions, missionary you know, just a heart to be involved in missions, a desire to see the congregation informed and inspired about missions, etc.

  6. What special interest and/or skills in missions would you bring to the Missions Committee? e.g.: administration, communication, finance, event planning, teaching/training, team building, etc.

  7. Among the tasks and areas of responsibility of the Missions Committee, in which ones would you be most inclined to serve?

  8. Do you understand that the Missions Committee serves the needs and mobilization of the whole church and our chosen corporation priorities rather than that of personal reasons or agenda?

  9. Are you willing to make the ministry and service of the Missions Committee a priority among other activities and responsibilities?  e.g.: meeting attendance and participation, active “homework” and responsibilities assigned besides meetings, supporting and serving missions events, hospitality to missionaries, etc.

I would encourage you to consider “requiring” that new members take the Propempo “Missions 101” class online. It is a commitment that would take at least 15 hours and likely more time. But it would also give the candidate a common ground of orientation and training in the work of the Missions Committee and of missions as they come into membership in the M-Committee.
