MoP 259 Training for the Sending Church 10 of 10 - Elevation 3 of 3
Released July 11, 2025
Welcome to Missions on Point, the Propempo perspective on church and missions. Good day. Thanks for coming along with us for episode 259 of Missions on Point. We're in the last of a series on training for the sending church, and this part has to do with elevation of your church
This final episode, we're going to talk about resources for elevation. What I mean by elevation is elevating your whole church. It's not just about educating your church leadership and your missions leadership, but really everyone in the church has a lot of ways to go to understand missions biblically and to understand it practically for your church. In the elevation section, we're talking about mobilizing, training, educating, involving your whole church family in doing their part of missions.
One of the prominent problems we run into in working with churches is the attitude of the lead pastor and those involved in leadership of the church, especially of leadership and missions, as they realize that they really haven't understood or been taught properly a biblical perspective on the centrality of the local church in the whole process of missions from beginning to end.
We've dealt with this a bit in other podcasts and in some things that we've written, but it is really an important thing to realize that the leaders of the church need to be humble and understand that missions isn't exactly the way they thought it was. God made missions part of the DNA of the church.
So it makes a huge difference when church leaders realize this and realize that they haven't been taught well in the past or assumed that the tradition was all correct and now they're willing to be teachable. What a difference that makes even for the church congregation to see and to understand that their church leaders are humble learners along with them and willing to take another step in the direction of having biblical local church centered missions as the drumbeat behind everything that they do in missions.
To see that changes the leader's whole perspective and it makes it ever so much more glorious and wonderful to see the Lord glorified in missions through your church in these ways.
Let's start with some resources that the whole congregation can access:
1. "Let the Nations Be Glad" by John Piper - This has become a standard for churches that want to understand missions throughout the whole Bible.
2. "A Vision for Missions" by Tom Wells - A deep but understandable book demonstrating that God's glory is the central part of missions.
3. Missionary biographies as part of regular curriculum for high school through adults.
4. Personal contact with missionaries and mission fields through hospitality and field visits.
5. Sound teaching throughout church curriculum.
6. Resources from propempo.com and sendforward.org - Non-biased resources built around serving local churches.
Our next episode, Episode 260, will air on July 18, 2025, marking our five-year retrospective of Missions on Point podcasts.
